Kichcha Sudeep has a good following in Telugu states as he made a great impression with Eega movie directed by SS Rajamouli. He has been acting in different languages even though he hails majorly from Kannada Cinema. The highly popular actor has come up with an high voltage action entertainer Max for Christmas holidays. The movie released in original language on 25th December and in Telugu on 27th December. Let's discuss about the film in detail.
Plot:
Inspector Arjun Mahakshay(Sudeep) known as Max, gets suspended for two months and transferred to another police station. On the day, he is taking charge, he arrests two local MLA sons and they die in the lock-up. As the MLAs are influential and have capability to topple CM, local police are completely shaken. In fear, they try to save themselves. Gangster Ganesh aka Gani(Sunil) and Inspector Roopa(Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) gets involved. How Max will solve this issue in 12 hours forms the rest of the story.
Analysis:
Kichcha Sudeep is good and in form as an action hero. His screen presence and look are believable as a mass action hero. His style of dialogue delivery and daredevil attitude does engage us. But the movie needed to carve out his character even better as it looks like bang an action episode after a point. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sunil did their best but Sunil's voice has been dubbed by someone else and we miss the connect. All others also did well.
The movie seems to be inspired heavily from Lokesh Kanagaraj's films in setting up an action sequence and even executing it. Mainly, Kaithi influence is visible even in the action set pieces and set design. But the makers seems to have deliberately deviated from some of the emotional beats that Karthi's film touched to make it even more bloody actioner. So, the characters don't really stay with us after the movie finishes.
Technical values are outstanding. Production design, cinematography and editing streamline the movie as a one huge action set piece divided into episodes. While few episodes are engaging, few feel like the makers have gone overboard. Gallons and gallons of bloodshed is seen on the screen but innovativeness in action set pieces vanishes as the film goes on. At the attempt level, we can say, it is nice from Kannada Cinema.
Ajaneesh Loknath has gone loud for this one and it seems like hero worship vehicle after a point. Movie is aimed at action lovers and it will find takers but a strong core and emotional depth would have made this movie much more better. With it ending up being a film that happens in 12-hours and in one night, the inventiveness could have made it even better. Still, watchable for Sudeep.
In Conclusion:
Max goes a little bit overboard in action tiring us after a point.
