Co-producer of Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film Raees, Farhan Akhtar, refused to pay up the Rs 5 crores demanded by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. 'Raees' stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khanbesides Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Farhan has said that he would not be paying Rs 5 crore to the Indian Army - as demanded by MNS Chief Raj Thackeray - to ensure the release of the film. The actor-producer has said that there's "no question of giving Rs. 5 crore to the Army" as they have refused to take the amount.
Thackeray had agreed to allow the screening of the film, which stars Pakistani talent Fawad Khan, on the condition that Karan donate a sum of Rs. 5 crore to the Army Welfare Fund, this after Karan Johar's recent meeting with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray, arranged by Chief MinisterDevendra Fadnavis, to ensure the safe release of 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil'. Farhan also asserted that it was the state’s duty to look after the film industry so they did not have to succumb to pressure tactics.
