Story :
Rabhasa movie starts off in Nellore city with a marriage backdrop where Jayaprakash Reddy’s son and daughter are set to get married. This marriage gets interrupted since Jayaprakash Reddy’s daughter elopes with her lover. Samantha, the daughter’s friend helps her in the eloping process and Jr NTR takes charge of the situation indirectly. NTR ends up fighting with the actual bridegroom (Jayaprakash Reddy’s Son) and sends off the couple to Canada. In this process, Jayaprakash Reddy builds revenge and sends his other three sons to find NTR. The major fact is that Samantha is none other than NTR’s own uncle’s daughter (Shayaji Shinde). NTR’s father (Nasser) and Shayaji Shinde end up having disputes due to a land issue where Shinde is at fault. Due to this dispute, the families part ways with a desire of NTR’s mother (Jayasudha) unfulfilled. Jayasudha always wanted to get her son married to Samantha which was the final wish of Samantha’s mother on the death bed. To fulfill his mother’s wish and to suppress the bad deeds done by Shinde, NTR goes in search of Samantha. In this process he ends up falling in love with Pranitha who is a friend of Samantha.
Finally, NTR finds out that Samantha is his target and follows her to fulfill his mother’s wish. Due to unavoidable situations, NTR and Samantha end up taking shelter in Jayaprakash Reddy’s home. NTR does everything possible to cover his real identity to Jayaprakash Reddy. He also manages the three sons of this man and Bramhanandam enters in the second half. Samantha is already in love with the person who helped her friends to elope. However, she does not know that it is NTR. What happens next ? Will Jayaprakash Reddy forget his revenge ? Will Shayaji Shinde accept NTR as his son-in-law ? Will the other marriage that got disrupted in the beginning find a new renewal ? Will NTR solve all these complications ? All this forms the rest of the story.
Analysis :
Rabhasa is a regular pact shown in a different backdrop with a very complicated script. It is so clumpsy that one will feel the fatigue by the end of first half itself. Unwanted characters, unnecessary stunts, songs in unexpected situations and so on make the movie, a tough task to watch. Rabhasa is a simply the best example of hero worship. More than the storyline, there is a lot of concentration given to NTR’s presence on screen. Rabhasa is simple !!! It is all about a man who wants to unite two families and get married to the latter’s daughter. In this process, he encounters complications with two other families and tries to sort their issues too. There is nothing new or fresh in it.
Performances :
NTR overshadowed every other character in the film since no one else were actually given a chance. Dance as usual is commendable and NTR did justice to his role.
Samantha and Pranitha looked too abnormal in Rabhasa somehow. Poor make up is one major reason behind this abnormality.
Bramhanandam was used as the backbone of the film as usual but this time his comedy was not of any great help since audience will hardly laugh.
Performances of actors like Jayaprakash Reddy, Shayaji Shinde, Nasser, Jayasudha, Seetha, Ajay, Raghu Babu and many others were good on the whole.
Technical Analysis:
Direction:
Santosh Srinivas has actually disappointed us with such a clumsy script. The execution was so unorganized and improper. There is nothing good to talk about in the film except for the long show reel of NTR’s performance.
Music:
Except for Rakasi Rakasi and one other song, none of the other numbers were really interesting. It is time that Thaman starts composing some new music instead of giving a shade of other tunes.
Cinematography:
Cinematography was flawless and the best thing about Rabhasa. The locations were well shot and actors were shown in a neat manner.
Telugu One Perspective :
Plus Points :
1. NTR’s Performance
2. Cinematography
3. Bramhanandam’s comedy to an extent
Minus Points:
1. Pointless Script
2. Too much of hype to the hero, suppressing the roles of others.
3. Unwanted characters like Pranitha and Nandu
4. Too clumsy when it comes to execution
5. Unnecessary Stunt Sequences and purposefully Complicated Script
Bottom Line :
In general, audience will get the twist and suspense in the movie. But this time, it is the hero who faces the twist while audience will predict the climax right at the middle of the first half. Rabhasa is definitely not a film for NTR’s caliber.
