Naga Vamsi's comments to create a headache for Game Changer?

on Jan 4, 2025

Producer Naga Vamsi with his comments in a recent roundtable with Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor, stirred up a fight, Bollywood vs Tollywood. Bollywood directors and trade experts, critics started criticising his attitude and arrogance in making such controversial comments.

He said, "No one in Mumbai Industry would have slept after Pushpa 2 The Rule took Rs.86 crores opening in Hindi belt." He further commented that Mumbai filmmaking has been restricted to Bandra and Juhu, they lost touch with common people and Telugu filmmakers are able to capture that big time and hence, they have such blockbusters.

Several directors like Sanjay Gupta, Hansal Mehta have openly criticised such comments and stated that one or two blockbusters should not make someone so arrogant. But the inside sources from Mumbai media does point out that many others have expressed similar dissastisfaction about these comments in their close circles.

Well, these comments won't be major issue for the producer but they could bring down the overall effect of Game Changer. Already, on social media, several North Indians started trolling his comments and quoting them under Game Changer trailer on social media.

If the film needs to succeed in North markets, where Shankar films normally struggle, the positive buzz towards Ram Charan and his previous blockbuster RRR, should be maintained. But Naga Vamsi's comments will prove to be a major hindrance in their plans to project the movie as another big Pan-Indian marvel in Hindi markets.

While the songs have literally been underwhelming and did nothing for the buzz, the recently released trailer did garner 180 Million views but the kind of anticipation that such a big film needs post RRR, in these markets, that too in Mumbai, is drastically low.

Mumbai - including Maharastra and few Saurastra regions, happens to be the biggest market for Hindi movies and dubbed movies in particular. Pushpa could penetrate into UP, Bihar belt but Lucknow event proved that Game Changer did not have that luxury.

So, it is important for Mumbai market to rake in good amounts during opening weekend for the film. Can they overcome Naga Vamsi comments' headache? Only, time will tell.
