Mass ka Das Vishwak Sen has been desiring to expand his market while sticking to interesting and diverse scripts. But he did not see much critical and financial appreciation for his Gangs of Godavari while Gaami did receive critical acclaim. Now, he needs Mechanic Rocky to click big time so that he can move on to his next film with even more confidence. But the movie got delayed due to his other films' issues and now, the movie released on 22nd November. Let's discuss about it in detail.

Plot:
Naresh (Vishwak) is a happy-go-lucky guy enjoying his college life with his best friend, Sekhar (Vishwadev Rachakonda), who is a passionate cricketer. Sekhar has a beautiful sister, Priya (Meenakshi), and at first glance, Rocky falls for her. Their lives are moving happily until an unexpected event causes everything to fall apart, and everyone gets separated.

After some time, Maaya (Shraddha Srinath) enters Rocky's life. Things start to change as Rocky narrates the events of his past to Maaya. Listening to his story, Maaya becomes a supportive shoulder for him. The mystery of who Maaya is, what happened to Rocky's life and his friends, and the issue that separated them all while eventually reuniting them, forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Vishwak Sen as Rakesh is good in parts but he seemed a little bit disinterested in few scenes. Maybe he just did not get right direction to approach those scenes. But the ever reliable actor did not really give a highly convincing performance in a role like this. Still, he is effective in key scenes and did try to elevate the meandering script in the first hour.

Shraddha Srinath is again very good in this role. She proved once again that she is one of the best in the business when it comes to elevating the written material with her performance. Meenakshi Chaudhary is good but maybe she had too many releases in short time and she did look a little fatigued. All others did their best.

Production values and technical aspects for this film are good. Mainly, Jakes Bejoy did his best to elevate the scenes that really needed someone to give a push. He tried his best but the writing did not really help him. Production design is apt for the film and we could see the budget spent, on the screen.

Writing wise the film falters in setting up a decent level base in the first hour. While the twists and turns does slowly sink in during the second hour giving us a picture on what makers wanted to say, it still needed a better set-up. Also, the comic scenes in first hour test our patience to a level that it feels like we walked into an old film's re-release screening rather than watching a new one.

Similar to Das Ka Damki, where Vishwak tried to pull it off by telling an old tale in new bottle, here also he did try similar beats in screenplay to major commercial films from past few decades rather than making a fresh attempt in the setting up portions. Had the set up been more convincing, the second hour would have been a solid knit and movie would have been better.

In Conclusion:

Movie tries to be many things at the same time and hence, lacks coherence.

Rating: 2.5/5
