Krishnashtami Movie Review
on Feb 19, 2016
Sunil's last film released in 2014 and for reasons obvious it took him two years to come up with next release. Here comes "Krishnashtami", which has enough reasons to become a laugh riot. Let us see how it is.
The CONTENT:
Krishna Vara Prasad (Sunil) lives in USA as he's sent there 18 years back when he was a kid to study. Back in India, his uncle (Mukesh Rushi) makes sure that he won't step in mother country at any cost. Unheeded Krishna however starts to India and gets struck in Europe due to a connecting-flight issue. In those three days he falls in love with Pallavi (Nikki Galrani). Due to some circumstances when Krishna lands in India, he gets attacked by Peddi Reddy (Asutosh Rana) men. Later he enters the same Peddi Reddy's house as son-in-law. Unfolding of all these twists is the story of the movie.
The EFFORT:
On-Screen:
Sunil tried to look and sound like a hero probably. Leaving his 'vetakaram' slang in most of scenes, he tried to make fun with punch dialogues only. However he needs to improve body language in romantic scenes. While his crazy six-pack is not needed, some attitude-pack is essential for him. Sunil's dances and action sequences are impressive.
Both the heroines, Nikki Galrani and Dimple Chopade, are projected in a way that one will suit class and other a mass. But Nikki's expression less face and plump appearance hasn't impressed many. At the same time Dimple looked more like an item bomb all the time. They fill the screen well and brought nice glamour to songs, but acting wise, don't ask.
Other actors like Mukesh Rushi, Asutosh Rana and the lady gang like Pavitra Lokesh are regular. In the comedy department, everyone like Saptagiri, Posani, Brahmi, Prithvi, Viva Hirsha tried their full best but succeeded only to certain level. They are not disappointing, but could have done more.
Off-Screen:
Vasu Varma picked up a 'Kichdi' story written by "Sri Venkateswara Creations". The film shows many shades of other hit films like Maryada Ramanna, Ready, Mr Perfect and others. While his directorial abilities are good, somehow he failed to sustain the emotion in any crucial scene. On the flip side, the story gets twisted in whichever way possible in glitchy manner, leaving us wondering what Vasu Varma is doing.
Chota.K.Naidu's cinematography is amazing. He's the big saviour of the film as he captures snow-capped locales of Europe very stylishly for the first half. Also the way he has shot some chases, action episodes and songs is terrific. If not Chota, the film's fate would have been something else. Other departments have done good, and choreographers helped Sunil again.
The PLUSES:
Sunil
Comedy throughout
Songs
The MINUSES:
A remix story that is tried and tested
Routine & dragged second half
BREAKDOWN:
Krishnashtami is boasted as a superb masala commercial entertainer that is crafted for a big hero. But big hero's will not accept this film as it happens to be a 'kichdi' of stories made from many films. At least an innovative screenplay would save such films, but actually Vasu Varma and Dil Raju felt that routine is enough for audiences.
Film starts with Sunil, an NRI, saving someone in the USA. It proves a point that even after going to USA, Indians behave like Indians only. (Read this way: Even after scoring many flops with routine movies, some makers think that audiences are liking routine only). And then hero starts his journey back to India, lands in Europe, love brews with a new girl Pallavi (Nikki) and he tries to impress her with fun. Her Pallavism episodes are fun and hilarious sometimes. Posani and Saptagiri are loud but still they steal the show for sometime. Then movie cuts to India, introducing new characters and setting up base for a terrific story. That's "Interruption". Interval is pronounced as Interruption inside this film.
While the setup could have become bigger and interesting in second half, however, the Sri Venkateswara Creations story writing team felt that audiences can't take much story. They cooked something like "Maryada Ramanna" in the first half where villains are waiting from years to kill an enemy and now they extended it with "Ready" kind of house drama. As the villain's family is hell bent on killing someone, twists after twists, they reveal some interesting stuff. Suddenly the movie shifts to Goa (they have actually shot in Bangkok) and it's an EVV Satyanarayana kind of funny climax that follows. Villains change, hero happy, movie ends!!!
By mixing so many stories, Dil Raju made nice decoction of a new story, but actually audiences know every single frame of it. However, some comedy scenes in first half and second half have saved the film to certain extent. But the film's second half would have been better to make it an interesting watch. Living up to the name of a commercial entertainer, the films makes sure that it will make audiences laugh, but will not give any new experience. That's why Dil Raju himself has given 3.25 to 3.5 rating other day.
Fate depends on how far people like Dil Raju believe in Dil Raju, and Sunil will impress.
Final words: Routine Ashtami
Rating: 2.5/5
