Khakee: The Bihar Series attracted many with a director like Neeraj Pandey being at the helm. Now, the director has made Khakee: The Bengal Chapter to follow up the series. The Crime Drama Action Thriller series tries to talk about the dark Nexus in the city of Kolkata. With major stars and actors from Bengali Cinema being part of the series, it got huge traction. But the initial reactions have been highly mixed. Let's discuss about the series in detail.

Plot:

Government, Police and Gangsters works form a dark nexus in Kolkata city. Shankar Baruah also known as Bagha (Saswata Chatterjee) is a big gangster in Kolkata and he has great connections with politicians and higher rank officials in Police. Barun Roy (Prosenjit Chatterjee), a high level politician has close links with Bagha and with his assistance, Bagha reins havoc in the city. As the opposition and public pressure to eliminate Bagha increase, Government appoints IPS Arjun Maitra (Jeet) to bring order in the city. Can he achieve this and bring order in the city? Watch the series to know more.

Analysis:

Neeraj Pandey has made interesting crime drama films like Special 26, Baby and with OTT platforms boom, he made series like Special Ops and now, Khakee. But the director seems to be progressively declining in delivering strong content. Even though on paper things might sound interesting, in execution he is not being able to deliver the same. The slow paced nature is not too much of a problem in first few episodes but towards the end, the simple things seem to have been dragged out of proportion.

The set-up looks interesting and we are hooked by the first episode. And the interesting premise slowly starts getting diluted with scenes being too slow and then some unnecessary sub plots also start to test our patience. By the time, the interesting portions re-appear, we are left wondering fine. He did showcase great intent and executed his ideas solidly in previous one but this one just seems like an after thought to cash in on the success of earlier one.

Cienmatography is a big let down. The Saturated hues don't really capture the real beauty of the locations and we are left wondering, if we are watching a TV drama. Also, the execution falls flat with major twists being diluted with the pacing. Editing and BGM could have been better at many places as they feel tacky at places. Still, we can watch it because of the performances to an extent.

Heavyweights like Saswata Chatterjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee deliver performances that arrest us. Even Jeet is very good for most of his parts. Still, there is a lot we would expect from a Neeraj Pandey crime drama. His inconsistency often comes across in different films and this series is one such. While it has a good premise and good drama to hold on to, the execution has brought the impact down, big time.

In Conclusion:

Doesn't live up to the first one's intensity and drama.

Rating: 2.25/5
