NTR who is riding high with hat trick hits has played triples roles for the first time in his career. What’s more, one of the characters has negative shades. Director Bobby’s last movie Sardaar Gabbar Singh was a disaster. Let’s see how all these factors are going to affect Jai Lava Kusa…
Story:
Jai, Lava and Kusa are brothers. While Lava and Kusa are great drama artists, the elder brother Jai is neglected since he has the problem of stammering. In a fire accident during a drama, all the brothers get separated. While Jai (NTR) becomes a thief and dreams to fly and settle in USA, Lava (NTr) who is now a bank manager leads simple life. In an accident Jai meets Lava who has many problems in life because of his over kindness. Lava needs to settle a bank issue in a week days and his one side girlfriend’s (Raashi Khanna) marriage has been fixed with other guy. Kusa promises Lava to settle all his problems, but he has other intentions. Interim, Priya has been kidnapped and huge money Kusa robbed has also been theft. They get to know that, it’s Java (NTR) who did all these. Why Jai (NTR), a monster who is willing to become a political leader in his territory, came in place of Lava and Kusa and created all the mess?
Positives:
1. NTR
2. Pre Climax Drama Episode
3. Kusa’s Hilarity
Negatives:
1. Predictable Twists
2. Lethargic Screenplay
3. Weak Ending
Analysis:
Movie starts with Lava and Kusa getting ready to perform a drama, wherein Jai was given the role of a horse which won’t have any dialogues. The childhood episodes of Jai growing animosity against his brother are shown effectively. Though he loves them a lot, their uncaring attitude hurts him all the time. In an intolerable circumstance, he decides to kill his own brothers in a fire accident. Cut to present, Jai is a thief and is willing to settle in USA. He meets Lava in an accident. Lava then narrates all his problems he faced because of his innocence. A local goon cheats him by taking Rs 1 crore loan which is to be paid back in a week days. And a girl named Priya whom he loves a lot will get married to a guy of her father choice soon. The romantic track of Lava and Priya wasn’t convincing.
Kusa vows Lava to resolve all his setbacks. But, his intention is to steal bank money. When things go smoothly, Jai enters the scene and kidnaps Priya and he also takes Kusa robbed money along with him. Jai character has been portrayed in the introduction episode itself where he has shown as a monster. While NTR’s performance in the episode was a bang, Devi Sri Prasad elevated it with his enchanting BGM. Story shifts to Odisha border where Jai resides.
Jai wishes to use his two brothers to grow politically. While Lava is appointed to change local people opinion on him to win the election, Kusa is asked to win his one side girlfriend Simran (Nivetha Thomas) heart. After all the things are set in favor of him, Jai decides to kill his own brothers. On the flip side, both Lava and Kusa wish to change Jai’s mind and attitude through a drama. This episode is the best part in the film. Then, movie leads to climax which is okay.
Artists Performances:
Jai Lava Kusa is all about Jr NTR. Young Tiger steals the show with his stellar performance in triple roles. Especially, the way he performed the role of Jai will blow your minds. It’s career best performance of NTR. While Lava was decent, Kusa provided some laughs. When the movie goes slow in first half, pre interval episodes where Jai character is introduced change the proceedings completely. Then, NTR’s one man show in the pre-climax episode where Lava and Kusa try to convince Jai through a drama will awe you. Raashi Khanna looked gorgeous and Nivetha Thomas was okay. Both the heroines didn’t get much space to perform. Hamsa Nandini was glamorous in a brief role, wherein Tamanna sizzled in a special song. Ronit Roy who played the antagonist was wasted completely. Priyadarshi was funny somewhat and Saikumar was good. Nanditha Raj and other artists were okay.
Technical Aspect:
Director Bobby opted to a good script. But, execution went wrong. Though he succeeded in portraying relationship between the brothers in childhood, he botched to make the movie engaging with stretched screenplay. While Jai introduction was the best in first half, drama episode was most excellent in second half. Bobby failed as a director to narrate a winning script. Devi Sri Prasad composed songs were middling and they didn’t appear grand on screen. His BGM work for Jai episode was absorbing. The only mesmerizing track in the film is Raavana. Even lyrics of the song were too good. Cinematography by Chota K Naidu is vibrant, wherein editing work of Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao and Thammi Raju was all right. Production values of NTR Arts are high in standard.
Verdict:
Jai Lava Kusa would please NTR fans. However, normal movie goers may feel bored owing to sluggish narration.
