Young filmmakers showcase boldness to try something fresh or they tend to present some old stories in a fresh pattern. Dreamcatcher belongs to the latter side of the spectrum where young team of cast and crew has decided to give a fresh, out-of-the-box psychological thriller about dreams becoming reality. We normally associate Hollywood films with such concepts but the young team lead by Sandeep Kakula has been able to bring such a concept to Telugu screen. The movie released on 3rd January and let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:

A software professional Dev (Prashanth Krishna) finds an unique pattern in his life that his dreams are becoming real. He wonders why is he able to remember his dreams and understands that he is having lucid dreams. He is happy that his dreams are predicting positive future for him and guided by them, he even finds his true love. But the dreams start to show him negative things and he is unable to fight them. In a desperate attempt to get rid of their negative influence, he starts to lose sleep, gets addicted to drugs and distances himself from everyone. Why is he having such dreams? What are they predicting or projecting? How can he overpower their influence? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

The movie makers took huge inspiration from Inception, Nightcrawler kind of films. The psychological thriller genre is new for Telugu Cinema has not many really attempted such films. So, the movie concept excites us from the first minute. The narrative keeps progressing at good pace without letting us think too much about any logics. Still, the writing could have been better without falling back on voice over narration and repetitive scenes in second hour.

Even with flaws, the movie is a considerable attempt from a young team. Technically, with a limited budget, the team has been able to bring great technical values on to the screen. Editing pattern and cinematography are good for the budget and also apt for the central theme. The lead protagonist inner turmoil needed to be stated out and the makers have did their best with a racy screenplay and apt runtime.

The movie team has been able to give us a decent thrilling experience with good production values. Clever and optimum usage of budget makes this film a decent watch. Prasanth Krishna and other actors performance is good and decent even though inexperienced. Every craft has come together to give us a decent thriller movie watching experience.

In Conclusion:

Movie is a decent thriller and one-time watch.

Rating: 2.5/5
