When a movie has Nani's name attached to it, the expectations among audiences are set in stone that it would decent if not good film to watch. He produced films like Awe, Hit and now, he came up with Court as a producer. Priyadarshi is playing the lead role in the film and Ram Jagadeesh is directing it. The movie is releasing on 14th March and let's discuss about it in depth.

Plot:
In 2013, a young boy Chandu(Harsh Roshan) who hails from Vishakapatnam, is on the verge of being proven guilty in a POCSO Act case. He is said to have molested a young minor girl, Jabilli(Sridevi). He needs a good lawyer to handle his case and his supporters try to contact a senior lawyer, Mohan Rao(Sai Kumar), from Vijayawada. When the senior lawyer hesitates, his assistant Surya Teja (Priyadarshi) dares to take up the case. What is so tough in this case? How did Teja bring out the truth? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Priyadarshi, Harsh Roshan, Sridevi and Sai Kumar gave very believable and apt performances. Sridevi's dialogue delivery is a bit downer in few scenes but her reactions are good. Priyadarshi is able to bring empathy very well but he could have been slightly better in court room arguments. He looked the part and delivered the lines well but his expressions needed slight fine tuning.

But the film belongs to Shivaji in a negative role. He inhales life into the movie with his over-the-top yet layered character. His way of approaching each scene and commanding screen presence enhance his scenes. Rohini is also good but her character lacks depth.

Writing wise Court is a decent drama with some chiseled arguments to fit their story. It is hard to explain POCSO ACT but if the arguments tried to depict the depth and harmful repercussions of the act then the intensity and impact would have been higher. The film revolves around this very act yet it doesn't try to bring out the complete meaning of the act, thoroughly.

It keeps moving in a generic manner following Chettu Kinda Pleader, Jolly LLB, Jai Bhim, Pink templates in depicting lead character and revealing case details. While the investigation is necessary to keep the suspence alive, we need a stronger cause to really route for the leads. Love at a tender age needed to be depicted in a more believable and arresting way than just phone conversations in random fashion.

The story could have been built strongly around their relationship. Also, in execution few scenes don't have the necessary pacing to appear real. In Pink, the court proceedings look neo-realistic and Jolly LLB also gives similar vibe. While the intent in Court is clear to bring such tone but camera work and even some arguments feel slightly rushed.

Director seem to have gone realistic yet dreamy kind of setting in his placement of camera. While the sets look real, camera placement and pacing doesn't really represent the same reality. The entire film moves on a predictable ground yet there are few engaging conversations and important questions raised with probable answers.

In Conclusion:
On the whole, Court has noble intentions but lacks depth, arresting quality that such a film needs big time. Ensemble cast performances, few scenes and clap worthy lines do make watchable yet with low expectations.

Rating: 2.5/5
