Director Chaitanya Dantuluri post his critically acclaimed Banam (2009) took some time to come up with Basanti. Similarly Brahmanandam's son Goutham took some time after Pallakilo Pellikuthuru. From the first poster and trailer movie started creating waves around the industry there is lot of postive buzz for the movie. Its a very important movie for both actor and the director. Lets get into the details;
Basanti Movie Story: Arjun (Goutham Raja) a happy go lucky guy, falls in love in the first instance with Roshini (Alisha Baig). From that time with the help of his friends Abbas (Ranadir) and Swathi, Arjun starts following Roshini. Being a good with heart Arjun always helps people in need, that's how unknowing Arjun helps Roshini's grandmother. From that time they start liking each other. But things turns around when Roshini confirms her P.hd studies in London. In the meanwhile, Gaazi a renowned terrorist comes to Hyderabad to save their leader Barbar from High Security Prison. On the eve of Basanti college Farewell party Terrorists attack Basanti College and capture 80 students as Hostage. Why did Gaazi attack Basanti College? How will Arjun help his friends and make their friends escape? Will Roshini accept Arjun's proposal forms the rest of the storyline.
Performances:
Goutham Raju is fine with his performance. He carries his act with ease and style. Alisha Baig is middling with her looks and performance wise she is okay as Roshini. Her sequences with looked natural. Ranadir plays an important character as Abbas. He provided his best
performance till date for this movie. Dhanush is limited to small role. Tanikella Bharini is scores with his performance and delivers best lines of the film. The girl acted as Swathi is all right in role. Rest of the characters support the lead cast perfectly.
Prospective:
Chaitanya Dantuluri is no doubt a skillful story teller. He has managed to bring to light the struggle of college students against cruel and demanding terrorists with maturity and precision. The first half of the movie is told crisp but it gets a over dramatic in the second half. The transformation in Arjun's character doesn't evolves with time and reason. Not only that, Arjun's character is expressed in the most convincing and touching way that we tend to care. Especially when his father asks him not to return back to him because the terrorists might hunt him down, but the way walkie talkie scene is picturized made us feel deeply for him. Cinematography is first-rate. The locale of Hyderabad is shot beautifully. Music by Mani Sharma is excellent blending well with the storyline. The movie has its share of negatives too. The Love between Roshini and Arjun appears dragged post interval. The second half of the movie gets over dramatic at times and gets weak on the plot line.
Analysis:
Undoubtedly, the strength of the film lies in its solid music and bgm by Mani Sharma. Cameraman Anil Bandari has captured some picturesque frames of Hyderabad. The director has certainly picked some very good outdoor spots to suit the narrative of the story. The song composition does go with the visuals but the background score by Mani Sharma more than makes up for it.
Basanti does not boasts of an off-beat story. Nothing looks fresh, but what works for the film is the way it is narrated. The dialogues are crisp and clean. The songs could have been better. Basanti is a neat story but a faster pace and little punch could have done wonders to the film. Most of the scenes are loaded with light-hearted elements rather than emotional content.
Technicalities:
Direction is fine. Chaitanya Dantuluri could have worked harder on the script to cover the loopholes and make it original. Cinematography is neat. Action sequences were reasonably average.
Plus: Music
First Half
Cinematography
Runtime
Minus: Second half Drags
Routine Narration
Old Story
Fight Sequences
Basanti Movie Rating: 2/5
Bottomline: Basanti could have been a better film with a neater script and dubbing.
