Allari Naresh has been looking to diversify his choices from his regular staple comedy flicks and since Nandhi, he is consistently choosing serious roles to showcase other side of his acting prowess. Now, he did Bachhala Malli in the direction of Subbu Mangadevvi and the makers promoted it as Naresh's Rangasthalam. The movie released on 20th December and let's discuss in detail if it delivers on that promise.
Plot:
Bachhala Malli(Allari Naresh) lives in Tuni and tops in tenth class board exams, in 1985. His father loves him deeply and his affection towards him is also very high. But his father chooses his second wife's family over Malli and his mother(Rohini). So, Malli decides to hate his father to the core.
In 1995, he meets a girl, Kaveri(Amrita Aiyer) and persuades her to love him with his sincerity. He decides to leave all bad habits for her which he started after his father chose others over him. But in 2005, he is seen again drinking and smoking like he did before meeting her. What happened to his love story? What happened to his father? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Allari Naresh, once again proved that as an actor he is one of the best in Telugu Cinema. He can pull off any given character, once he immerses himself into it. Bachhala Malli is one of his best performances. Amrita Aiyer gets few good scenes but director could not bring out a consistent performance from her.
Hari Teja, Praveen got some interesting characters and we want to explore their relationship with Malli even more. But director failed to connect us with them and even mother's character. Rao Ramesh, Achyuth Kumar, Harsha Chemudu all are there but we don't get strong scenes to really connect with them.
To avoid predictability factor director tired to go for a screenplay that keeps some beats hidden and they are delivered like twists. But those scenes are the key point for us to really emotionally connect with characters. Rayye than building the animosity, love and emotions, there is an emptiness in the entire journey.
Even if we are expected to connect with a character, at least we should be given other perspectives effectively to anticipate the change that this character has to go through. The writing and execution turn out weak even though Vishal Chandrasekhar's music, Richard's camera work did try to elevate the content.
While the director tried hard still the predictability factor brings the movie down. Connectivity factor in emotions could have helped it. Production values are good and Razesh Danda proves yet again he is a producer with taste. Just a better script would have really made this movie impactful.
In Conclusion:
Allari Naresh's performance tries to elevate but writing pulls him down.
Rating: 2.5/5
