Will Aamir Khan end drought in Maharashtra??

The drought situation in Maharashtra this year was appalling. The Indian railways even sent over 100 water trains to the drought hit areas of the state. And now it looks like actor Aamir Khan will play a role in ending the severe drought crisis in the state. The actor and his wife Kiran Rao, along with the team of his popular TV show "Satyamev Jayate", have formed Paani Foundation, which works in association with the state government to find ways to end water scarcity. He said it was his dream to make sure that the water crisis in Maharashtra was solved for good within the next five years. "This year we have been successful in our project in three talukas of State. Now next year, we would go for thirties and in next five years would try to reach almost all 358 talukas in 36 districts of the State. Our target is to make Maharashtra completely drought free in next five years", Aamir Khan told journalists, on the occasion of Satyamev Jayte Water Cup Awards 2016 function, in Mumbai.

 

The competition was held from April 20 to June 5 and villages were judged by the amount of water storage they created through water harvesting methods. The 51-year-old actor hailed the efforts of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to make the state drought-free. "It is our dream to make Maharashtra drought-free in five years. And it is our good fortune that Maharashtra got a Chief Minister who has pledged to solve the water crisis. His political will is really strong," Aamir told reporters. With first prize of Rs 50 lakhs, second prize of Rs 30 lakhs and third prize of Rs 20 lakhs, Paani Foundation strategically announced its initiative, in the form of Water Cup Competition. 116 villages of three talukas of the State including - Koregaon (Satara district), Ambejogai (Beed district) and Warud (Amravati district) took part in the competition.
