on Nov 20, 2024
The recent developments from Kollywood aka Tamil Cinema, have been about the separation or divorce of renowned celebrities. Everyone got a rude shock when legendary composer AR Rahman announced his divorce with his wife Saira Banu after 29 years of marriage. No one really had any sort of slightest of an idea that the composer and his wife have been harboring some emotional strain and differences.
AR Ameen, their son, asked for privacy to their family in this matter while Saira Banu's lawyer stated that the matter is extremely personal for his client and she doesn't hope to discuss about the issues in public. AR Rahman wrote that while they both wished to hit sweet thirty, the God had other plans and they had to accept their painful fate.
With such a shocking revelation, many started wondering what happened to Kollywood celebrities, lately. Composer GV Prakash Kumar announced his separation with his wife, Saindhavi after a 11-year old marriage. Both of them have been best friends for a long time before entering into wedlock.
Then, shocking everyone, Jayam Ravi announced his separation with his wife, Aarti, after 15 years of marriage. Many reports suggested that Jayam Ravi got fed up by the authoritative nature of his mother-in-law and he couldn't bare with it anymore. Also, there have been rumors about his flourishing romance with a singer which he denied vehemently.
Before this, Dhanush announced separation from his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Director AL Vijay took divorce from actress Amala Paul and both have got married again with their now partners. Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja went through two divorces before marrying his wife Jaffrunnisa.
There have been rumors about Suriya and Jyothika separating, reports about Thalapathy Vijay staying away from his family, mainly wife Sangeetha. While Suriya and Jyothika rumors turned out to be baseless, Vijay and Sangeetha separation reports have been even stronger with Vijay - Trisha rumors gaining momentum.
Now, the question deems to be, Why Tamil Film Celebrities? Some trolls have been pointing at Dhanush, as GV Prakash, Amala Paul and even AR Rahman announced their divorces after working closely with him. Even some started saying, Gautham Vasudev Menon fell into debts as he started working on Dhanush's Thota and few more unhealthy trolls about him being a bad omen are prevailing too.
But psychological experts suggest that the issues that have been dormant between a couple could burst out when anyone least anticipates. They suggest that in a relationship communication is more important and emotional distancing could result in long term couples deciding on extreme measures.
While some tabloids, gossip mongers want this to be some cheating wife or husband story, experts suggest that work-life balance has become difficult in recent times and with passing day, the loneliness among couples is also growing. When people start surrounding themselves with more and more work to escape from dormant issues, it could result in even more frustration.
Like Aamir Khan recently admitted, therapy does help in discovering the issues that have been hidden and causing emotional strain between couples. It could be about religion, beliefs, distance due to constant work and even falling out of love could cause such sudden bursting out which could result in taking extreme corrective measures.
Each couple mentioned here have gone through different issues, some really did have to face misogyny, cheating partners but few have been going through issues for a long time and finally took extreme steps. AR Rahman's case also seems to be more about the couple's internal issues rather than extra-marital affairs.
Maybe its time for those who stay in public eye to openly admit to few issues that keep haunting them for ages and get help at the right time. While divorce is a normal development that could cause between any couple, celebrities lives does get over scrutinised for selfish means by vested interests.
So, in this social media friendly world where people are quick to jump the gun and judge, it could be better if celebrities decide to encourage marriage counselling, therapy more openly to address dormant psychological issues between couples as divorce is becoming a trend.
