Vishwak Sen tried something different from regular films with Laila. In the film, for the first time, he took on a lady get-up and created buzz around the character. While a controversy boosted its buzz, the movie team tried to stay away from any such issues. Now, the film released on 14th February all over. Let's discuss about the film in detail.
Plot:
Sonu Model(Vishwak Sen) becomes a very decorated make-up artist in Old City area. His mother gifts him the beauty parlour, hence, he treats it as his temple. He is a very kind-hearted person and behaves like a family member with his customers. One day, he helps a customer Jyothi, to use his name for promotions of their oil brand. He exposes SI (Babloo Prithveeraj)'s affair to his wife and hence, becomes his major enemy.
Sonu falls in love with a gym trainer (Akanksha Sharma) and looks to settle down. Meanwhile, a local don Rustum(Abhimanyu Singh), whose family are die-hard fans of Chiranjeevi falls in love with a woman due to Sonu's make-up. He gets to know about it and looks to beat up Sonu. At the same time, SI tries to arrest him for food poisoning MLA with the oil. To chase the mystery behind all this, he turns into Laila. What happens next? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis :
Vishwak Sen looked more comfortable in Sonu Model character than Laila. In places, he did pull off lady character and expressions but not consistently. Even the material did not help him to maintain a flow in both the roles. The writing just got more and more convenient as the story progresses and comedy also did not work.
Akanksha Sharma's character is used for songs and glam quotient. Abhimanyu Singh got a better character among all and he performed well. Again, the writing did not land for any character and everything looked just bad. The adult comedy dialogues work against the film as they aggressively become cringe and unbearable.
The adult comedy could have worked with more creativity and nuanced imagination. But they just seem to have gone for low hanging fruits at every place. Easily, another big drawback for the film is predictability. Over usage of Sunisith character doesn't evoke laughs but feels like a desperate attempt at creating some fun.
The narrative feels flat and boring as each comedy bit and plot point can be predicted from a mile away. Even in a predictable film, if the narrative had been imaginative and creative, it would have worked wonders. Leon James music is ok and production values by Shine Screens' Sahu Garapati are good but at script level itself movie had major flaws which team could not cover up with execution.
TeluguOne Perspective :
Laila doesn't impress Majnu!
