Happy Ending Promises a Unique Blend of Romance and Tragedy says dir Kowshik

Yash Puri, who made a mark with his performances in ZEE5’s web film Alanti Sitralu, the comedy Cheppalani Undhi and the recently released epic drama Shaakuntalam is gearing up for the release of another film Happy Ending. This light-hearted coming of age tale, directed by Kowshik Bheemidi has god good buzz with the interesting promotional content. Apoorva Rao is cast as the female lead. Yogesh Kumar, Sanjay Reddy, Anil Pallala are bankrolling the film under Hamstech Films and Silly Monks Studios. Today the director Kowshik Bheemidi shared insights with media.

"I am drawn to films with a fresh approach, like those portraying marriage and movies like 'Vicky Donor.' The idea for 'Happy Ending' originated when I was reading Mahabharata, discovering the multitude of curses within it. This led to the concept of exploring how a boy from the current generation would face such a curse. While there have been movies in Telugu featuring curses, none had been produced recently, prompting me to focus on scriptwriting. Given the Puranic backdrop, I felt the need to present the story in a modern and relatable manner to resonate with the current generation. When I pitched the idea to Anil garu of Sillymonks, he found it compelling, and that's how the project started."

"Yash, the young hero, was introduced to me by Anil garu, and upon seeing him, I felt his potential aligned perfectly with the character in 'Happy Ending.' Yash also resonated with the story, and that's how the project took off. We envisioned this story for a theatrical experience, as opposed to an OTT release, to ensure it reaches a wider audience. Even though movies like 'Vicky Donor' explore adult themes, the treatment makes them accessible to all, and we aimed to achieve the same with 'Happy Ending.'"

"'Happy Ending' is a romantic drama with a unique twist. The protagonist faces a curse, adding a tragic element to the story, yet the audience will find moments of laughter. The poster intentionally doesn't reveal the heroines, but their characters play a crucial role. Drawing inspiration from directors like K Vishwanath and Shekhar Kammula, I emphasized the importance of female characters, providing full-length roles for the heroines. The narrative explores the journey of a young man cursed in childhood, falling in love, and navigating the consequences of the curse, bringing forth a different kind of romance."

"As a first-time director, I found comfort working with relatively new technicians. Their fresh perspectives aligned with my ideas, and the collaborative process was smooth. For instance, music director Ravi listened to my diverse concepts and crafted music accordingly. The story is meticulously structured, with a compelling beginning, interval, and a satisfying climax where the hero is released from the curse. The climax includes a small recalling scene with a psychological drive, offering a novel cinematic experience. While Bollywood has experimented with similar storylines, the Telugu audience's diverse taste and appreciation for various genres motivated me to explore this concept."

"Both Yash and Apoorva were aptly suited for their roles in 'Happy Ending.' We conducted workshops before the shoot, ensuring they were thoroughly familiar with the script. Their on-screen chemistry is fresh and satisfying, leaving me as a director thoroughly pleased with their performances. I believe 'Happy Ending' will resonate with audiences as a clean family entertainer, combining romance, tragedy, and a unique storytelling approach."
