Ranveer Singh Dhurandhar runs into legal trouble

on Nov 29, 2025

Ranveer Singh starrer film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has encountered a major legal challenge just days before its scheduled release. The parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma, Ashoka Chakra awardee, have moved the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent stay on the film.

Their petition alleges that the movie, despite denials from the filmmakers, is directly inspired by their martyred son's life, covert operations, and sacrifice without their consent or approval from the Indian Army's Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI).

The family contends that commercial exploitation of a national hero's story without proper authorisation violates the deceased’s posthumous personality rights and infringes upon their own rights to privacy and dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution. They argue that a martyr is "not a commercial commodity" and have raised concerns about the film’s potential depiction of classified military procedures, which could pose national security risks.

The plea names the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the CBFC, the ADGPI, and the filmmakers as respondents, demanding a complete halt to the release until the family is granted a private screening and their objections are addressed. This legal development puts the film's theatrical debut in immediate jeopardy.

Sara Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt are part of the ensemble cast of this two part action epic about Indian RAW mission in Pakistan. After URI: The Surgical Strike, the director is back with this spy thriller at a massive scale.
