Who
is Poojita Chowdhary?
She is the older daughter of Union Minister of Tourism, Renuka
Chowdhary who is known to be an outspoken and individualistic
person in her own right. It was her passion for making documentaries
that triggered her potential to write, produce and direct.
She moved to Mumbai because she felt that it was the hub of
films, advertising and media -related professions.
Poojita and Vinta Nanda made Gender Bender with the intention
of creating employment opportunities in jobs hitherto closed
to women, on the basis of gender rather than ability. “There
is no job that a woman cannot do. There is a need to move
beyond gender differentiation of occupational choice, thereby
making many more vocations available to women. Hence that
film,” explains Poojita.
Gender
Bender was Poojita’s second documentary for
Project Smita — the first was titled Sand in my Nostrils
(based on female foeticide). She also assisted Vinta Nanda
in White Noise. Poojita says that she wants to do many more
documentaries on Indian culture, history and social issues.
Little
about this young director (in her words)-"On a personal
level I am quiet by nature. It is important for me to like
what I'm doing but it must give me sufficient time to spend
with my family and friends. I like travelling to new places,
meeting different people and learning about other cultures."
Let us appreciate the girl for wielding the camera with a
motto. |
