AP Gov goes digital with MS & MIT

The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and California State University (CSU) for collaboration in the areas of e-governance, data standards, and service-oriented architecture under the project called ‘Open Knowledge Initiative’ (OKI).
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy at the inaugural session of GITEX India 2007, a three-day annual information and communications technology products exhibition. The exhibition is being organized by the AP government and Dubai World Trade Centre.

The MoU also enables initiating a consortium called “OKI Consortium”. The government expects that the State will accrue huge benefits from the consortium in e-governance and improving the skills of students for their employability. The consortium will also benefit the citizens with improved online services and corporate world with new technology for their usage.
Further, through the concept of MIT’s Open Courseware (OCW), the students can access the content of lectures given in classrooms at MIT. Apart from this, the association with a US-based Computer Science Corporation gives students access to their labs which promote innovative technological research and projects. IEG has also signed two MoUs with CSC and Microsoft Corp. India for training the faculty and students of Jawahar Knowledge Centres besides offering project works and internships to the students in the State.
