Members of Telugu community of Atlanta, Georgia celebrated Sankranti festival on January 23, 2010 in Alpharetta.
The festivities were organized and hosted under the leadership of the newly-elected Executive Committee and elders of Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta.
The children’s and young adults’ choreographic presentations were wonderful, in fact, electrifying; children and young adults dressed in flowing festive costumes and the traditional dances they’ve performed showed what the festival is all about – keeping tradition, even if, symbolic; standup comedy by “Reverse Gear Guruswamy” was just ’wah’some!
The festivities were put together real well, drew a larger than capacity crowd resulting in ‘standing room only’ for a large number of visitors in the cavernous auditorium of Independence High School in Fulton County.
Vote of Thanks was given by TAMA Vice President Sreedevi Dadithota . She thanked the audience for their support in making the program a grand success and also thanked Swapna restaurant for catering the dinner and Dosa Houze for catering the snacks for the evening.
The evening concluded with “Bhogi pallu” for all the kids . Bhogipallu is one of the highlights of Sankranthi festival and truly portraying the telugu Culture & Tradition. The kids thoroughly enjoyed and posed gleefully for the pictures while their parents poured bhogi pallu on them. This gave the event a perfect festive ambience and gave us few sweet memories to cherish.
