US state declares porn as public health crisis

We couldn’t have expected this to happen in US. But in an unusual and brave step, the governor of Utah, a major state in US has signed a resolution against pornography. This resolution though doesn’t ban porn in the state, would try to bring awareness among the citizens against porn. It was intended to encourage much research and education to find and popularize the harmful effects of porn. It cites that watching porn has detrimental effects such as treating women as objects and commodities.

“We also want our young people to know that there’s a particularly psychological and physiological detriment that comes from addiction to pornography,” said the Utah governor Gary Herbert regarding the resolution. The resolution also states pornography as a `public health crisis’. Though the resolution has received mixed reactions from the public, other states in US too might follow the steps of Utah. The governor has also enacted a law seeking computer technicians to report to the authorities, if any child pornography was found while working on a machine.
