Centre confused over Rajiv’s killers

The decision over the release of culprits in Rajiv Gandhi murder case seems to be a crucial one for the centre. While the government of Jayalalitha has unexpectedly raised the issue before the elections, any decision by the centre is certainly going to affect the ongoing polling process in Tamil Nadu. If the centre accepts the TN government’s request to release the prisoners, it would certainly help the ruling AIADMK, and if the central government decides otherwise... such an act would provoke voters against BJP. Keeping in view of such sensitivity, the home ministry has been avoiding any declaration. Even though a national newspaper, The Hindu has today reported that centre has denied the plea petition by Tamil Nadu.. centre was quick to deny the news.

The decision of centre would affect seven convicts who were serving life imprisonment for killing Indian former PM Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. They were serving imprisonment since then and making repeated pleas to release them as it’s been too long for them in prison. The Jayalalitha government has been supporting their pleas and has requested the UPA government before in 2014 which was denied on legal reasons. And now it’s the turn of NDA government to express it’s view!
