Earthquake of 4.7 on Richter Scale hits Gujarat

Early Sunday morning tremors of magnitude 4.7 were felt in various parts of South Gujarat.  Areas of Gujarat like Randher in Surat, Amreli, Sawarkundla, Adajan were the places where the tremors were felt. According to the Met Department, the tremors were felt at at 9:24 am. The epicentre of the earthquake was 14 km from Surat though no casualty or damage was reported, an official said.

"An aftershock of 2.8 magnitude was also felt at 11:23 AM with its epicentre at some 25 kms south-south east of Bhavnagar city in Saurashtra," said A Satish, senior geologist, Institute of Seismological Research, Gandhinagar. Chief Minister Anandiben Patel said on her twitter handle, "Earthquake of magnitude 4.7 reported near Surat this morning. State government is taking necessary action. No damage reported till now."
