Then PC, Now Fidaa Are Lessons
on Jul 29, 2017
A small time film Pelli Choopulu completes one year after release by today. Producers spent almost shoestring budget on the film which went on to become a smashing hit. Dil Raju produced Fidaa which released 8 days ago is running successfully and is providing huge profits to the producer as well as distributors.
Though Fidaa is not a small budget film like Pelli Choopulu, very less budget was spent on the film compared to many 'mass masala' and hero centric films released in recent times. De facto, perfect scripting and equally well execution from director Sekhar Kammula is the only reason for Fidaa becoming a huge success.
Since the director is well aware of filmmaking process, he opted to right locations, technicians and artists. As said by Dil Raju, he gave complete freedom to Sekhar Kammula believing his capabilities and also as not to disturb him by fingering in script. If Dil Raju had also involved in the making process or scripting, we might have missed Sekhar Kammula mark portrayal.
Both Pelli Choopulu and Fidaa are big lessons to Tollywood filmmakers who are investing massive budgets on star hero films. Actually, demand was huge for commercial films. But, that was past. Now, audiences mindset has changed and are preferring to watch meaningful, class and family drama films.
Hope, star and upcoming producers don't run after commercial scripts and encourage directors who come up with experimental and unique subjects which can be made with decent budgets. Can we call it as a profitable venture- if a high budget entertainer made of 40 to 50 crores is collected 60 crores from ticket window?
