Ace Producer Dil Raju has produced the biggies Game Changer and Sankranthiki Vasthunam. On the occasion of Sankranthi, Game Changer is set to release on January 10, and Sankranthiki Vasthunam releasing on January 14. Ahead of this, he spoke to the media and shared some interesting insights about both the films.
Producer Dil Raju said, "The pre-release event of Game Changer in Rajahmundry was a huge success, thanks to the support from AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. I felt very happy that we were able to hold the event. It was a truly memorable experience in my life. Mega fans, Jana Sena workers, and Pawan Kalyan's supporters were all there, supporting us. Additionally, the AP government granted permission for benefit shows during Sankranthi and allowed an increase in ticket prices for upcoming movies. Honorable Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan garu took the initiative and spoke with Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh garu on our behalf, securing the approval to raise ticket prices for the three movies releasing this Sankranthi. I would like to extend special thanks to AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu garu, Pawan Kalyan garu, Minister Durgesh garu, and the Police Department for their support."
"As the Sankranthi festival approaches, our Telugu audience eagerly awaits the release of new films. Now, audiences from across the globe, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, are also looking forward to these releases. The craze and reach of Telugu films are increasing in the North and overseas. Game Changer will release on a Pan-India scale, and I am under a lot of stress trying to get the film's content to all the necessary places as soon as possible. Game Changer is a very special film for me, as it has been a journey of three and a half years. We began the film with a puja ceremony in August 2021, and I’ve experienced many ups and downs along the way. To be honest, this journey began before Covid, around four and a half years ago. I’m reflecting on how things have progressed since then. We initially planned to release the film in May 2021, but Covid hit in March of that year, causing a delay. We eventually released the film on April 9, 2021, but after just four days, the Covid surge returned and theaters shut down once again."
"After taking a break, Pawan Kalyan garu’s re-entry film Vakeel Saab came out. Director Venu and I worked hard to make it a blockbuster. However, shortly after its release, theaters closed again due to the second wave of Covid. That was a disappointing moment for me. So, I took a month off and went to America for a break. Later, we worked on the film Varisu, which did well in Tamil, but unfortunately didn’t receive the recognition it deserved in Telugu. Then we worked on Balagam, and as we all know, it became a huge hit. Since the film was set in the backdrop of Telangana, it received 100 out of 100 marks in Telangana, but only 70-80 marks in other regions. In such times, I often reflect on myself. After the release of Family Star, my seven-year-old grandson Aramsh called me and said, 'Grandpa, you look disappointed. You have a Game Changer in your hands. You can't afford to be disappointed.' That really moved me emotionally. It was then that I realized I needed to make a change. I needed inspiration, and I began setting new targets for myself. While talking to my close friends and well-wishers, I realized that the films weren’t yielding the expected results. This started to create a sense of fear in me. I began questioning whether my judgment on stories had changed, or if I should return to making films with familiar combinations. I also felt that Shirish was unable to concentrate due to the overload. So, I decided to streamline all the work. Success in the film industry is valuable, and that is what drives me."
I started thinking about the films I had in hand and the kind of results I wanted to achieve. At that time, Shankar garu’s Indian 2 was released, and everyone knows the result of that film. This led to some criticism against Shankar garu. During this period, when Shankar garu narrated the story of Game Changer, I had several discussions with him about what I believed. We worked together, emphasizing that the result of Game Changer is important for the hero, for Shankar garu, and for me. When it comes to Game Changer, no matter how it is made, there are many moments in the film that will make the audience in the Telugu states whistle in excitement. Chiranjeevi once said, "No matter how big a commercial film Shankar makes, there will always be a good message in it, and no matter how big a commercial film you make, there will be value in it." When Shankar garu told me the story of Game Changer, I felt that both my emotions and Chiranjeevi’s statement were in sync. A film that combines respect with commercial elements is a Game Changer. If you watch Shankar’s film Sivaji, there is heroism, but the hero and villain engage in a tit-for-tat battle. Even politically, the scenes between Ram Charan (Hero) and S.J. Suryah (Villain) in Game Changer will evoke similar reactions, with the audience whistling. In the end, everything turned out well. The emotions and efforts of the last three to four and a half years will culminate in the next three to four days. I am confident that the audience will appreciate the film and enjoy the wow moments. When I went for the media interaction in Mumbai, I convinced Shankar garu and played the video song Jaragandi for everyone. The reaction was fantastic. We spent Rs. 75 crores on the songs, and they will impress the audience with their stunning visual grandeur. The movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 43 minutes, and it will flow smoothly. I am very excited. Game Changer is coming this Sankranthi, and I am confident that it will be a comeback film for me.
Coming to Sankranthiki Vasthunam, everyone is already calling it a superhit. The reason for this buzz is Anil Ravipudi. From the moment he narrated the story, he has been working hard to make the film a hit, much like F2. Just as the audience enjoyed F2, Sankranthiki Vasthunam going to be a big hit. With these two films, I am going to come to the audience with full energy. Telugu audiences will take our movies to another level. I am making sure to approach my next projects with great care.
The reason I have so much energy is because of Pawan Kalyan garu. He entered politics 12 years ago when his career was at its peak. Many people, including myself, wondered if it was necessary for him to enter politics at such a time. But looking back on his ten-year journey, I have gained an energy that I didn’t know existed. He entered politics, but things didn’t go as planned. Despite this, he didn’t give up. He returned to films. In the recent elections, his party won all 21 seats in NDA alliance. He truly seemed like a game changer. After seeing his journey, I realized that I should not stop or give up, even if I am facing difficulties. I should not ignore the hard work I’ve put in. I am inspired by Pawan Kalyan garu and motivated to continue on my own journey. I now have clarity on increasing the benefit shows and ticket rates for films in AP, and I will soon make the same request to the Telangana Chief Minister. Ultimately, the final decision belongs to the government, and as a producer, it is my responsibility to address these matters.
The pre-release event of Game Changer was grand, and while we were happy about that, it is with great sadness that I learned two fans died in an accident while returning from the event. I will support their families, and on my part, I am providing financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to each of their families. I understand the pain their families are going through after such an incident, and I offer my deepest condolences to them.
I spoke to Pawan Kalyan about making the film Vakeel Saab, and we strongly believed that the film would reach a wide audience. He trusted my words, and we discussed the financial matters. After we made the film, Pawan Kalyan later told me that the remuneration from that film was used as fuel for the Jana Sena Party. He didn’t need to mention this, but it was very emotional for him to share it on such a big stage. When a deputy CM and a people's leader says something like that publicly, I felt happy and emotional.
We need to look at the ticket rates and request an increase accordingly. If they are increased excessively, it will have an impact. Telugu cinema has reached a global level, and we are gaining respect. As the budgets and scope of films have grown, we now face a situation where we have to produce films that meet these standards. And that is exactly what we are doing."
