The AP High Court on Friday rejected the suo motu case taken by Justice L Narasimha Reddy on the allegations made by Handlooms Minister P Shanker Rao that Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy and Excise Minister Mopi Devi Venkataramana Rao were involved in corruption. The Minister had alleged that the Home Minister and Excise Minister were indulged in corruption and the former was allegedly selling the posts of her department. On September 27 Justice Reddy felt that the allegations should be inquired by the CBI and directed the registry to place the matter before the division bench to decide the matter.
A division bench of Chief Justice Nissar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar on October 11 decided that they would look into all the papers in the case pertaining to allegations levelled by the Minister and today rejected the suo motu case on the reason that the court s precious time cannot be wasted on such allegations. The court also felt that it is not the job of ours to find out a reapproachment among the Ministers and settle scores, they said, adding, Judges cannot take up suo motu cases on mere allegations without the consent of Chief Justice.
