If Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has his way, former assembly speaker K R Suresh Reddy is going to be the next chairman of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.
Outgoing council chairman Chakrapani, an old-timer and friend of former chief minister K Rosaiah, is unlikely to get the re-nomination to the Council under the Governor’s quota. In his place, the Chief Minister is understood to have recommended the name of Suresh Reddy, during his recent visit to New Delhi.
Kiran told party president Sonia Gandhi that Suresh Reddy, a non-controversial and soft spoken leader from Telangana would fit into the bill. Since he is already an experienced as the speaker of the House, he can handle the situation well, Kiran reportedly told Sonia.
There might not be much opposition to Kiran’s proposal, unless there are other strong contenders for the MLC seat. Heard that several other artistes and singers are also trying for the MLC seat under the Governor’s quota, sources say.
