SEEK THE BLESSINGS OF A CRORE LINGAS!
Every temple in India has its own specialty. If the temple at Warangal has thousand pillars, a temple in Karnataka boasts of a crore lingas. The Kotilingeswara Temple in Kammasandra village of Karnataka is a home for ninety lakh lingas. To understand the origin of this temple, we have to go back to the Threta Yuga, when Lord Sri Rama offered prayers to the Shiva linga after his long and destructive battle with the demon Ravana.
It is said that Lord Sri Rama prayed that the souls of those killed in the battle, rest in peace. In the present age, which is the Kali Yuga, the foundation of the temple was laid by Swamy Sambha Shiva Murthy. History says that the first linga was installed in in the year 1980 on October 10 followed by the construction of the main linga. Though the main deity of the temple in Lord Shiva, the area consists of 11 temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses like Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Maheshwara temple, Lord Venkataramani Swamy Temple, Goddess Annapoorneshwari Temple, Lord Panduranga Swamy Temple, Lord Panchamukha Ganapathy temple, Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Sita Temple, Lord Anjaneya Temple, Goddess Kannika Parameshwari Temple and Goddess Karumaari Amma Temple.
However, the greatest attraction in that temple is the Shivalinga that has the status of being the largest Shivalinga in the world. It is 108 feet tall and beside it is the 35 feet tall Basava. With 10 priests, drums and music the temple is always cheerful from 6 am to 6 pm. One should definitely visit the Koti Lingeshwara Temple in his or her lifetime to seek the blessings of the Lord.
