God resides in everything on this earth. But some of his dwelling places have been marked by the construction of temples. One such place is Kerala, where you can take the blessings of Sri Guruvayoorappan. The temple is listed among the Mahakshetras or great abodes of worship. Here Lord Sri Krishna is fondly called Guruvayoorappan. The deity in this temple is made of black stone which is magnetic in nature. It is also known to have some medicinal properties. The daily routine of the temple is an abhishek of the Lord with Til oil followed by sprinkling of cleansing powder made herbs called Vaka. Crowds start pouring in as early as 3 am. The holy water of that place is distributed to the devotees as theerth, after consecrating it with mantras.

There are many facts about the temple that leave you in amazement. The temple is believed to be five thousand years old. Few of the records of the temple are stored in copper plates and palm leaf scrolls. The custodians of the temple from ancient times belong to the Royal family of Zamorins of Calicut. The fact that the temple has a mention in the epic Mahabharata adds to its greatness. The inner walls of the courtyard have paintings made from vegetable dyes. These paintings are recreated by the students of the school run by the temple authorities. They call it Chomiru Chitram and it is made available to the devotees.
