Nawab – Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, a Tamil Flick has been dubbed in Telugu as Nawab. It is yet another multi starrer along with Deva Das which has released today and let us see if has impressed the audience.

Story:

The film takes off with the murder attempt on Bhupathi Reddy (Prakash Raj), a well-established don in Chennai who has three sons played by Aravinda Swamy, Simbu and Arun Vijay. Who is behind the murder forms the mystery. Who is this and what made him do that is the crux of Nawab.

Performances:

Vijay Sethupati is the dark horse of this film as his role brings comedy and good twist to the proceedings. Jyothika is neat as the troubled wife of Aravind Swamy who is awesome in his negative role who wants to take the Don's chair. Simbu looks out of shape but performs very efficiently. Arun Vijay looks dashing and done neat job.

Senior actress, Jayasudha did justice to her mother’s role. Young starlet Aishwarya Rajesh as Arun Vijay’s wife is good. Aditi Rao Hydari and Dayana Erappa did a decent job in their limited screen presence. The climax twist where the entire suspense drama is unveiled looks top notch.

Verdict:

Mani Ratnam has failed to generate a curiosity factor in the film. He makes the second half jaded as the predictable story makes everyone understand who the culprit is. However Mani shows his brilliance only in the climax which is riveting and nicely narrated.

The magic mark of Mani is clearly missing as the plot is borrowed from Godfather.

Yet another flaw is the too much Tamil Nativity in the film.

Nawab as it has the Mani mark missing completely. If you want to see a galaxy of Tamil stars try this film otherwise can miss it.

Rating: 2.75
