Rohit Shetty avoids a clash with Rajinikanth
on Oct 5, 2016
Director Rohit Shetty had earlier announced that he would be releasing Golmaal 4 during Diwali 2017 and had released his previous films during Diwali as the holiday season adds more revenue at the box office. But seems like he has had a change of mind. Although Shankar has not announced the release date for Robot 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, trade sources confirm that the makers are indeed eyeing a Diwali 2017 release, as well. According to media reports, owing to the tremendous buzz and Robot 2.0's budget, Rohit Shetty is of opinion that it makes no sense to clash with a Rajinikanth film. A report quoted a source as saying, "While most directors fight over festival dates for the release of their films, here's one director who is willing to make the big gesture. Rohit's films have always released in the Diwali week as they represent the bright, happy, larger-than-life festive spirit. But Rohit is very clear that he won't release on the same day as 2.0. He's a huge fan of Rajinikanth and he's grown up on the South superstar's films and has too much respect for the senior actor to clash with his film on the same day."
