South Indian Superstar Rajnikanth & Star Director AR Murugadoss's first combination movie is Darbar. So the expectations from the movie is pretty high. After many days Rajni can be seen in a police character. During the last festival season of Sankranthi, Rajnikanth entertained us with Peta & during this Sankranthi he is here with Darbar. So has it entertained the audience thoroughly? Let us read the review.
Story:
Mumbai Police Commissioner Aditya Arunachalam (Rajinikanth) has no one in the family except one daughter Valli (Nivedita Thomas). Many years ago, a gangster named Hari Chopra (Sunil Shetty) would have burnt alive 17 policemen in a building. Commissioner Arunachalam takes over & changes the situation. Many other cases come infront of Arunachalam & he tried to solve all of them with utmost care. But there is something precious which Arunachalam has lost while fighting with the gandsters. What is that? Forms the rest of the story.
Analysis:
Movie's first half will surely entertain the audience with Rajnikanth's high voltage drama. But sadly director A.R. Murugadoss has made the secondhalf very much predictable & routine. Music by Anirudh is very much ordinary & none of them will remain in audience's mind after they leave the cinema hall. Telugu dubbing is extremely commendable.
Plus Points:
Rajnikanth & Nivetha Thomas acting
Fun & action scenes in first half
Cinematography by Santhosh Sivan
Minus Points:
Weak screenplay in the second half
Rajni & Nayantara have no chemistry
Certain scenes have no logic
Performances:
Rajnikanth plays the role of Arunachalam with his own style. Rajnikanth as police officer is something new to look for. Even at the age of 70, he has impressed the audience with his moves. Sunil Shetty plays villian Hari Chopra. But his character has no depth. Nivetha Thomas gives her best & does justice to her character. All the others were okay.
TeluguOne Perspective:
The movie's storyline is very old & a very routine action film. Rajnikanth fans will surely see the movie once. Those who go to the movie with high expectations are sure to get disappointed.
Rating: 2.5/5
