Today India celebrates 69th Independence Day. At the time of Independence, secretly many writers and poets used to stage plays that indirectly helped inspiring people to fight for freedom. Arts were always a part of our freedom struggle. Same are movies, which have always celebrated the feeling of Indianness with pride. In the modern cinema, there are few films that always touched our hearts with this patriotic feeling for the country.

Bharateeyudu: Biggest evil in the post-independent era is none other than taking bribes to do one’s duty. Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s take on this evil by making a freedom fighter resort to killing of dishonest bureaucrats is something that can’t be done in real life, but is flaunts how a country should work. That’s a patriots’s advise.
Mahatma: What is Gandhiji’s advise to this country? Leadership is not about leading the tribe ourselves but standing with a leader and supporting him. As Srikanth never accepts the MLA ticket but helps another one before preaching morales, director Krishna Vamsi gives a wonderful insight of Gandhian philosophies. He says, Gandhi is not one influential family’s surname.
Tagore: This is Chiru’s stylish take on bribery yet again and the messages he deliver with some statistics interlaced is worth taking it. Enjoying freedom is not about distributing sweets on August 15th but living with morals, ethics and following the principles preached by our valiant freedom fighters is. Though a commercial film, this AR Murugadoss story makes people think about country.
Khadgam: A honest cops take on terrorists, and the way few locals are shielding them. A truly inspirational film for those who want to curb religious differences and live life for the country than making most out of it. Srikanth, Prakash Raj and Krishna Vamsi are at their best.
Leader: Sekhar Kammula’s take on how to become a good politician and how a politician should lead like a leader with that Vandemataram background score is truly striking. Rather blaming biggies, he asks if audiences (read common voters) have the guts to vote without taking money. A well made patriotic movie that new generation should watch.
