Updated : May 6, 2026

In a strong move to protect the interests of Telugu film actors, the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) has issued a serious warning against fake organizations operating under similar names. Recently, unauthorized groups have been misleading artists and illegally collecting funds in the Telugu states, prompting the apex body of Tollywood actors to clear the air. Addressing the film fraternity and the public, the association released an official press note asserting its sole authority and condemning these fraudulent activities.

Official Statement from MAA (Movie Artistes Association)

We would like to bring to everyone’s attention that MAA (Movie Artistes Association) is the only recognized and official association representing artistes across both Telugu states — Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. MAA is affiliated with and recognized by the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce and the Telugu Film Producers Council

MAA is also the only artistes’ association that works in coordination with all 24 crafts of the Telugu film industry. We function as a unified body to support, represent, and safeguard the interests of our members.

It has recently come to our notice that some individuals and unauthorized groups are misusing the MAA name and creating confusion by using misleading titles such as “AP MAA”, “MAA AP”, and others. And also illegally collecting money from artistes.

We would like to make this absolutely clear

There is no such organization as “AP MAA or MAA AP” officially recognized by MAA

MAA has not authorized any individual or group to collect money on its behalf

We strongly condemn these fraudulent activities and will take strict legal action against anyone found misusing the MAA name or misleading artistes and the public

We also urge all artistes not to make any payments or take membership in such fraudulent associations

Please remain vigilant and cautious, and report any such incidents directly to the MAA Office, Film Nagar, Hyderabad. Let us stand united to protect the dignity, unity, and integrity of our association

This timely clarification from MAA brings much-needed awareness to the Tollywood community, especially for aspiring actors who are often vulnerable to such scams. By taking a firm stand and threatening strict legal action against these unauthorized entities, the association has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and security of Telugu artists. Industry insiders have welcomed this bold step, hoping it will quickly put an end to the illegal extortion of money in the name of fake memberships.
