Sundal Tamato  Rice

 

 

 

 

Ingredients:
1. Raw rice- 2cups
2. Onion- 2
3. Tomatoes -2
4. Green chill-4
5. Garlic- 8cloves
6. Ginger- a small piece
7. Chilli powder – 1tsp
8. Coriander powder-1tsp
9. Turmeric- pinch
10. Bay leaf-1
11. Chenna (small) 1/2cup
12. Garam Masala
13. 1/2 lemon juice

 

 

Method:
1) Soak Channa (small) in water for about 8 hours or over night.  Wash well and drain the water and keep it aside.
2)Chop onion, tomato, ginger and garlic finely.  Slit green chillies slightly.
3)Soak Rice in water for just about 15 to 20 minutes and drain the water completely.
4)In a pressure cooker put the oil or ghee (Or mixture of oil and ghee) and heat it.  When it is hot add cinnamon stick, cloves, bay leaf, whole cardamom and fennel (ani seeds) and fry just for one or two seconds. 
5) Add onion, green chillies, ginger and garlic and fry till onion become transparent.  Then add tomato and fry for few seconds.  Add red chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and fry for few more seconds. 
6)Now add the soaked channa(small) and rice along with salt.  Mix well.  Add four cups of water.
7) Finally add lemon juice and stir well.  Close with the lid and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
8) After few minutes, remove the lid and gently mix the rice.  Garnish with coriander leaves.
