The state government has cancelled the land allotment and mining lease of Vijayalakshmi Industries, allegedly owned by the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's family, in Owk mandal in Kurnool district.
Vijayalakshmi Industries had reached an agreement with the state government to carry out limestone mining activity in 462 hectares of land in Owk mandal when the late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy was the chief minister. The Opposition parties protested, saying that the land belonged to farmers who possessed pattadar passbooks.
Succumbing to the protests, Vijayalakshmi Industries did not initiate work in the allocated land. After YSR’s untimely death, the state government reviewed land allotments and mining leases to several industries and a decision was taken to cancel the land allotment to Vijayalakshmi Industries on the grounds that mining had not begun in time.
