POOR CHOCOLATE IS MISUNDERSTOOD!

This one’s for the chocolate lovers! Chocolate is something we all fell in love with as children. This love has only increased with time. But over the years, people told us such things, that compel us to stay away from what we love the most. Is that all true? Good news! No, its not. Lets break some of the famous myths about chocolate today.

People believe without a doubt, that chocolate increases the LDL cholesterol in our body making us unhealthy. Its time they doubt what they know. Despite the fact that chocolate contains cocoa butter, which is high in saturated fat, it does not act as saturated fat. This is because most of it comes from stearic acid. On the contrary, chocolate can lower cholesterol in some people!

If you are someone who thought chocolate is high in caffeine. The next few lines are going to prove you wrong. The truth is human mind has exaggerated the actual amount present in a chocolate. A Hershey’s chocolate bar contains not more than 9 milligrams of caffeine and a Hershey’s Special Dark bar contains only 31 milligrams, unlike a Starbuck’s grande brewed coffee which contains 320 milligrams.

‘’Sugar in chocolates makes kids hyperactive.’’ If you have heard this a lot of times, I’ll tell you the best reply to such comments. A series of studies have found absolutely no relation between the sugar content in childrens’ diet and their hyperactivity. Instead they attribute such behavior to the environment of the child [eg party].

Next I have some good news for people with diabetes. You don’t have to skip chocolates entirely! Did you know that chocolate has a low glycemic index? In fact dark chocolate can contribute in the improvement of endothelial dysfunction. Having said that, it is always best to consult your doctor before you can let yourself enjoy a chocolate!

Parents often warn their kids of tooth decay and cavity to keep their them away from chocolates. Little did they know that the cocoa bean actually keeps tooth decay at bay. This is not my opinion but that of Osaka University in Japan. It is table sugar that is the actual bad guy. So next time dont deprive your child of some chocolate joy :)

Chocolate makes you thin. You dont believe me? Then you should take a look at a study funded by the National Institutes of Health. It says, small amounts of chocolate each for five days can lower you BMI, taking you closer to who you always wanted to be. Meet the happy way to stay healthy!

A usual advise is to take chocolate with 70% cocoa in it to benefit from it. This too has been proven otherwise. In a study conducted for 18 weeks, participants ate small amounts chocolate containing only 50% cocoa, yet witnessed reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This is not magic. Its only the truth.

Despite the fact that no connection was observed between chocolate and acne, way back in the 1960s, people still cling to the myth for some inexplicable reason. The truth is, no amount of chocolate has an effect on your acne. Towards the end I’m extremely happy to announce that chocolate is not a bad guy!
