AP State government has sent proposals to Centre for setting up Petroleum University and Information Technology (IT) hub near Rajhamundry. State government has ear marked 760 acres of forest land between Rajahmundry and Rajanagaram on National Highway No. 16 for this purpose. Centre has to de-notify this forest area before approving the state government proposals and granting funds to these two projects. Centre will fund both these projects and state government has to ensure speedy construction.
Rajahmundry rural MLA Gorantla Buchchaiah Chowdary said that once the Centre grants necessary permissions and funds it may not take too long to kick start the construction activities. He also briefed about some other plans of the state government. He said Potti Sriramulu University will be shifted from Hyderabad to Bommuru in Rajahmundry in the near future. He said around 30, 000 houses for poor will be constructed at Rajahmundry rural area in the vacant government lands.
