Vijayawada Metro Rail Project works are likely to commence from January 2016. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to construct two corridors in the city. One is MG Road corridor and the other is Carl Marks Road corridor. Foundation stone for MG Road corridor will be laid near Swaraj Maidan bus stop in the first week of January, 2016. DMRC Chief E Sreedharan will meet AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and hand over the land plan documents of these two corridors. Once, the revenue department completes the land collection process then DMRC will begin it works.
DMRC has already called tenders for corridor-2 works. It will announce the name of the successful bidder on November 20th. It is going to invite tenders for corridor-1 works also soon. DMRC sets December 2017 as deadline for commissioning the corridor-2. It plans to run the Metro trains in this corridor from March 2018. DMRC is also proposing 3 property development projects in the corridor-2. It plans to construct additional floors at PNBS Metro Station, Railway Station and Nidamaanooru Metro Stations, each with an estimated cost of Rs. 5 crore for using commercial purposes. This idea is to ensure sufficient income is generated to make this Metro Project viable.
