After Cock-fights, Horse Racing starts in East Godawari

For the first time ever, horse riding competitions were conducted at Samalkot in East Godawaridistrict of Andhra Pradesh. Hitherto, people of this region mainly revelled in cock-fights during Sankranti festival days, but horse riding competitions are fast becoming popular in this area. Though the event was held for the first time, more than one lakh people thronged the venue to witness it.
Organizers of the Horse Riding Competitions told that in all 24 horses from different parts of the state have participated in the competition. A 1.5 km to and fro stretch along the railwaya track in Samalkot was used as the race track. The winning horse from N-Kotthapally village ran the 3 kms distance in 3 minutes 38 seconds. The horses placed second and third were from Bheemavaram and Pandalapaka. Of cource, like in case of famous cock-fights, heavy betting on the horses took place here too.
