Earthquake of 5.5 Magnitude Rocks New Zealand

Earthquake in New Zealand: According to Hongkong Observatory reports, several areas in the South Island of New Zealand were today rocked by an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude. The earthquake took place at 0649 GMT or 12.19 hrs IST. Initial reports made no mention of loss of property or life following the convulsions.

Experts in the Observatory feel that earthquakes have been of late become frequent in New Zealand as the country sits amid the Pacific Ring of Fire, a pro-earthquake zone.
