After the prolonged deliberations till late in the evening yesterday, the state Congress was able to convince DL Ravindra Reddy to take on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the ensuing bypoll for Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. The decision was taken by the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in consultations with the state Congress president D Srinivas, state affairs in-charge Gulam Nabi Azad and party leaders from Kadapa.
State medical & health minister Dr. DL Ravindra Reddy, though considered a staunch opponent of late YSR, was reluctant to contest against Jagan Mohan Reddy in the bypolls. After failing to make Kandula brothers, who just joined the Congress, to jump in to the fray, the state Congress leadership led by Kiran Kumar Reddy zeroed in on to DL Ravindra's name. AICC, too has approved DL's name, it is said. Reacting to his candidature from Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, Dr. DL Ravindra Reddy said "When the party asked me to fight against Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy who had challenged the Congress leadership, I could not shirk my responsibilities as a loyal Congress worker."
