From September 23 to 26, New York experiences the extraordinary diversity of India.
The celebration, organised by India's tourism ministry, will showcase the finest of the Indian art, culture, food, music, fashion and Bollywood.
The programme has been well publicised with billboards on Times Square and also on the tourist buses plying the streets of the city.
At the Lincoln Center, the programme was kicked off on September 23. At the by invitation only event, guests were treated to specially choreographed music and dances of India (Odissi, Kathak, Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Kathakali, and Theyyam.
Thatwas followed by an Indian culinary experience.
To mark the occasion there was a full day programme at the city's Byrant Park. Those included a photo exhibition by Steve McCurry of National Geographic Channel, folk dances and a Bollywood-based dance programme.
Actor Anil Kapoor added the star power to the inaugural programme at the Avery Fisher Hall of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The evening ended with designer Raghavendra Rathore's fashion show.
