Inspiring Gesture: Muslim Men Cremate Hindu Youth

A group of Muslim men arranged for the cremation of a youth from an poor Hindu family at a Muslim-majority village in Malda district.  Biswajit Rajak of Shekhpura village in Manikchak block died couple of days ago after a prolonged fight with liver cancer throwing his poor family into a crisis as it had neither the financial means nor manpower to perform the last rights.

Muslim men in the village carried Rajak's body on their shoulders for a distance of 3 kms to the burning ghat, and performed all the traditional Hindu rituals including consigning the ashes to the nearby river and taking a dip in the river after the cremation.

What's more, they chanted "Ram nam satya hai" and "Bolo Hari Hari bol" all the way to the crematorium.

Inspired by the gesture, Malda Zilla Parishad saha-sabhadhipati (vice-chairman) Gaur Mondal himself joined the cortege.
