23 died and 20 injured in stampede at Rajahmundry

 

The day one of Mahapushkarams of River Godavari in Rajahmundry begins with a tragic incident. According to preliminary reports 23 devotees were died and 20 others are seriously injured in stampede at Kotagummam Pushkar Ghat in Rajahmundry today. Most of them are women, children and elderly people, who came from north costal Andhra Pradesh districts. The incident is reportedly occurred due to sudden rush of devotees to Kotagummam Pushkar Ghat as many of them eager to take holy dip on the day one of Mahapushkarams. All the injured were shifted to local hospitals in the city immediately. CM Chandrababu Naidu is personally supervising the relief and rescue operations.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana CM KCR and YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy have expressed shock over the incident. Modi stated that the Andhra Pradesh government is doing its best to prevent such incidents further. Telangana CM KCR expressed shock and grief over this tragic incident. Jagan Mohan Reddy is reportedly rushing to the accident spot very shortly.
