Former President Abdul Kalam passes away

 

Former President of India, Abdul Kalam (84) passes away in a private hospital in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya state on Monday evening. He was suddenly collapsed on the dais while giving a speech at Shillong IIM. Immediately, he was rushed to Betheni Hospital and given treatment, but he died. According to information, he was died due to severe heart attack.

 

Abdul Kalam full name is Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He served as President of India from 2002-2007. He was born was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameswaram in Tamilnadu state. He studied physics and aero space engineering and worked as scientist for four decades in the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

 

He was involved in ballistic missile development and its launch vehicle development with which he become very popular as Missile Man of India. He also played very important role in India’s second nuclear test conducted in Pokhram in 1998.

 

He received Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the prestigious Bharat Ratna Award in 1997 from Government of India. Besides these, he receives dozens of awards from many renowned institutions from all over the world. He was honored with doctorate degrees by several universities from all over the world. Royal Society, UK honored him with the prestigious King Charles-II Medal in 2007. California Institute of Technology, USA honored him with International von Karman Wings Award in 2009. ASME Foundation given felicitated him with prestigious Hoover Medal.

 

He was elected President of India in 2002 and served in the post till 2007. He always remains a main source of inspiration for the people of the country.
