Updated : May 18, 2026

Karthik Subbaraj has always had a unique voice in Tamil cinema. From Pizza to Mahaan, his quirky and intense storytelling was perfectly matched by the modern, raw sounds of his frequent collaborator, Santhosh Narayanan. But for his 10th film, the director is making a massive leap that feels like a true fanboy dream coming to life by teaming up with the legendary Maestro Ilaiyaraaja.

Stepping away from the familiar musical style that defined his past hits, Karthik is working with the very idol whose music he grew up listening to. The newly released promo video captures this emotional transition beautifully. It starts with a quick look back at Karthik’s previous films before shifting to the magical words: "From growing up with his music, to working with him."

The footage then takes us inside the recording studio. It is an absolute joy to watch a new-age filmmaker sit in pure admiration as Ilaiyaraaja composes on his keyboard and guides a live orchestra. They share warm laughs, and the Maestro even signs a ukulele for the team. The video builds to a proud announcement, marking Karthik’s 10th film, Ilaiyaraaja’s 1540th, and celebrating the legend's 50th year in cinema.
