Legendary Poet, Writer and Lyricist Dr Cingireddi Narayana Reddy (85), recipient of the Jnanpith Award in 1988, breathed his last on Monday. C Narayana Reddy who was fondly called as Cinare was also a play-wright, orator, educationist and communicator. Besides Jnanpith, the poet who penned lyrics for several Telugu film songs was also the recipient of the Padma Shri in 1977 and Sahitya Akademi Award.

Cinare was born in a remote village of Karimnagar district in Andhra Pradesh on July 29, 1931. He had a MA and PhD in Telugu literature from Osmania University where he also worked as a professor. In 1992, he was felicitated with country’s third-highest civilian honour, Padma Vibhushan. 

Reddy reportedly started working with the Telegu film industry in 1962 and penned more than 3000 songs. In August 1997, he was nominated to the upper house of the Indian Parliament, the Rajya Sabha.
