Young and talented director Nag Ashwin who made his directorial debut with Nani and Vijay Deverakonda starred Yevade Subrahmanyam will soon start his most ambitious project Mahanati, biopic of yesteryear actress Savitri. Keerthy Suresh will reprise Savitri in the film which will have actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu playing an important role. 

As per reports, Samantha will play the role of a journalist in the film. For the role of Savitri's husband Gemini Ganeshan, makers have roped in Malayalam actor Dulquar Salman. Initially Suriya was approached. However, the '24' actor rejected the offer owing to controversies surrounding the role.

Another news is that, Pelli Choopulu fame Vijay Deverakonda who also starred in Yevade Subrahmanyam is finalized to play love interest of Samantha. However, official announcement is awaited on these reports.
