Varun Tej is a relieved and happy man as Korean Kankaraju has opened to encouraging word-of-mouth across the Telugu States. The Merlapaka Gandhi directorial premiered through nearly 100 paid shows on Thursday night, with several screenings reportedly witnessing housefuls. Following the positive reception from audiences, the cast and crew interacted with the media to thank moviegoers for their support.

Speaking at the interaction, Varun admitted that he was anxious before the film's release but felt a huge sense of relief once the premiere reports started coming in. Calling it his biggest success in nearly six years, the actor said audiences have particularly appreciated his performance and the comedy track featuring Satya. He also added on a personal note that he believes his son, Vaayuv Tej, has brought him luck, as this success has come after his birth. 

Varun revealed that Megastar Chiranjeevi spoke to him for nearly half an hour after the initial response came in and is expected to watch the film soon. He also shared that his wife Lavanya Tripathi thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The film's comedy sequences, however, also sparked discussions on social media over an imitation of legendary actor NTR. 

Addressing the issue, director Merlapaka Gandhi clarified that the sequence was performed by Satya purely in a light-hearted manner and was never intended to mock or disrespect the iconic actor. Echoing the same sentiment, Varun Tej said the team has immense respect for senior actors and that the scene was designed only for entertainment without any malicious intent.

Merlapaka Gandhi expressed happiness over delivering a successful film after Express Raja, while producer Rajeev Reddy described the film as a much-needed success after nearly a decade. Actress Ritika Nayak thanked audiences for embracing her character and continuing to shower love on her films. With strong word-of-mouth driving the film's opening day, the team is now hopeful that the positive response will translate into a successful theatrical run over the weekend.
